So after having my last smear which was completely normal I now have high grade severe dyskaryosis in 3 years ! Please get your smear on time if I would have delayed it, it might have been even worse. The NHS have been really quick to be fair I was told on the 6th September appointment is on the 14th . Has anyone been through this process?

I had CIN3 last December , had the colposcopy to get rid of it 2 weeks after the initial smear, got clear margins results a week after
Procedure to take away the affected area was a breeze

I’ve had this, the biopsy results take ages to come back which is stressful. I had a cold coagulation to freeze the affected cells away and my smear since has been normal. This was in 2019 and I’m now 32 weeks pregnant. Good luck x

I had this a few years ago, my experience was like yours, very quickly seen and the procedure nowhere near as bad as I expected. I’m also clear now and echo the OPs sentiment about getting your smears regularly.

Try not to worry about the procedure, it’s uncomfortable but not that bad at all and I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine xxx

Good luck, I had abnormal smears for 4 years and a biopsy each time to check if it had changed. Luckily, my last smear was normal finally. The nurses who do it are the nicest people I’ve ever met, they do this every day so please do not feel too nervous. Make sure you take a pad for your underwear as they put some dye stuff inside my and I leaked for a few days (TMI sorry!!).

Do they still send out letters inviting you to book your smear? With moving house and covid over the years I’d honestly not thought about it until finding out I was pregnant in June and being asked at my appointment when my last smear was .. I’m not sure if I’m allowed one now? but I’m sure it’s been over 5 years and I’ve not had any letters inviting me to book like I did the first time round.

At my first smear the results kept coming back as abnormal, had biopsy taken and told it’s CIN3, had to have a colposcopy but then also LLETZ surgery to get rid of the affected area.
None of the procedures were that bad to be honest and my results went back to normal on the follow up smear.

One part that stressed me out during the whole process was how slow and bad at communication the NHS was with my appointments. I’m thankful for the NHS but I was already stressed with my results and when you’re having to chase them and make sure they haven’t forgotten you or when they’re sending you letters telling you your appointment is in one place and it’s not then it’s just added stress 😭

They do still send letters, call your GP to see which address they have for you. Mine was sent from them. Sorry you’ve found the nhs slow, hope this time isn’t as bad x

I just had a check through all my records as I was getting a little worried about it and apparently have a letter from 2019 where the results came back as normal. I do not remember having that one at all. I’m glad it wasn’t as 5+years like I was worried about!

I had borderline/mild abnormalities from the age of 25, with regular tests every 1-2 years. Colposcopy and biopsied a couple of times. Eventually more significant abnormalities so had the LLETZ. I was quite worried but actually although it was a bit weird (could feel cervix contracting?) it wasn't really painful or anything memorable, I think the first biopsy was worse tbh . Clear tests (and a baby!) since then last 10 years :)

I've had the test today was really weird seeing my poor bits up close on camera 🤣🤣. They did the dye and biopsy wasn't as painful as I thought looked more painful on screen if you know what I mean. I've got some cramps and pain but not too bad. It was fine definitely less painful then the stretch and sweep midwife did before I went into labour .

They couldn't give me full treatment on the day as my medication is rare so they wanted to check if it would react or I'd need a GA. On a positive note they said it didn't look too bad compared to the smear results and they could do the Cold coagulation treatment (which is a heated prob to burn off) instead of the LLETZ as I have two patches of cells which are spread apart they thought the LLETz would be more invasive. Overall very happy the waiting was the worst bit.

Very glad it's been caught early and I went for my smear on time just waiting for my biopsy results and further treatment. I'm feeling much more positive about the whole thing.

So glad to hear this! I cannot believe you watched the screen, there’s no way I could have done that 🤣 good luck with the next part of the treatment xx

My only advice would be if they do the procedure where they burn it away, can't remember what it was called, I would take lavender or something smelly to put under your nose. I could smell my own flesh burning and it made me feel sick. I'm aware not everybody would feel that way but I wish I had known!

I’ve had a few biopsies now as I’ve been through similar. The biopsies feel like a really really intense period pain, but they literally take seconds. I would advise you to take a sanitary towel with you because I’ve had spotting after all my biopsies. You may also experience some mild cramping for a few days.

I’ve also had the LLETZ procedure, the worst part for me was the smell! It’s not particularly nice at all, and again you may experience cramping.

the nurses who I’ve seen each time have been wonderful and so reassuring. It’s an anxious time and they really do all they can to calm you down. I hope it all goes ok, sending love xx

Got my procedure tomorrow biopsy was CIN 3, feeling a bit sick wish they just would have done it on the day !

Hope all went ok x

My first smear all was ok, second one came back with abnormal results, CIN 1 and HPV. They said they was more concerned with the HPV as apparently it’s so common in women to get abnormal results. Had my biopsy and they said they wanted to leave it as it was as they hoped it would go on its own. The following year I had my third smear and again same results so back for another biopsy and again they wanted to leave it as still only CIN 1.

I did a bit of research and I don’t know if it was just a coincidence but I read if you have hpv and on the pill it can be hard to get rid. So I came off the pill and when my fourth smear was due it came back all ok 🤷🏼‍♀️

Saying that I’m due my next one next year and absolutely pooing it and convinced it’s back. Anyone that does have HPV how do you feel about having it and getting pregnant? My consultant advised me not to. I have two children and would love one more but I keep thinking if it shows up on my results again I might not ever have another, I’m 32 and said I wanted my last by time I’m 35.

Why would they advise not no? My OBGYN said no problem.

She said if I had hpv and fell pregnant it can change the cells which could lead to more abnormalities and they won’t be able to do any biopsies etc while I’m carrying and worse case it could lead to the C word. I mentioned first how I read a news article about a woman that this happened to and she then was just like yeah I’d advise you not to. Although she also said to keep taking my pill and then I went on to read about it can prevent hpv from clearing up so I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’m definitely going to be asking again though when I’m due my next smear to see what someone else says about it all
