Thread Entwined in Doolin


I wore a cardigan

It was made of thread

It will connect us

Until long after we're dead.

The fibres are cosy, bank balance sick,

All to fund Garrihy and her schtick.

I'm writing a poem to post on Tattle,

Procrastinating work is an ongoing battle,

But the cardigan in a dashing sea green,

Reminds me of rolling waves crashing on the Cliffs of Dooneen.

Inis, Inis dom. You don't have to tell me,

Most of ye wouldn't wear it if it was free.

The wool has a pull around my family

First for my mother, and now for me,
we'll sit and admire nature in perfect harmony.

I'll post it to insta, she'll tag me on feed... these influencers are a different breed.

And then at night, I'll cosy up to bed
in an expensive nightie
and a scrunchie on my head.

Beo, take my money, I'll buy myself some socks
and as my bank balance fell
I'll tell myself "Sleep Well".

I went to the Armada hotel a few weeks ago, we stayed in the suite, gorgeous views and fab room but when we went to our room first, there was empty plates and bottles left outside the door obviously from the people before and in the room there was to be complimentary chocolate crisps and a soft drink but there was none. Lads I can't even handle the banter on here. I said their relationship was like a soap where the audience can see what's going to ho wrong well in advance. Now it was turned into a book of characters.

The traditional and pushy mother.
The proud and corpulent father.
The potentially closeted BIL.
The boring sisters who want to be famous.
The apirations of an artistc family via stolen poetry, gushing speeches and over priced knits.
The grandchildren dressed identically, denied individuality.
The West of Ireland fortune in properties, hotels, boats.
The fat child who dared to be different, turned into a Swan, got a decent career and had Ireland at her feet unlike the rest of the clan. But she is now left carrying the whole family towards infamy by turning into the woman she became famous for mocking.
And now enter...the soft-faced man child, heir to McDonald's millions, battled addiction but is now engaged to a salesperson for Centra wine.

Get me a Booker prize!

First time commenting on this. Used to actually like Doireann but she is wearing thin. The other two and Claire I just cannot handle. Claire is the worst!! I did ride Ailbhe's fella way back in college. Wasn't a bad fella, not much to him though!

These "my year was better than yours" reels really trigger me.

2023 was a bit shit for us. We got engaged, started wedding planning (yay), but also have been dealing with health issues, fertility challenges, bereavement, work stress that will probably force me to quit next year and a mental health diagnosis swooping in late this year to top it all off. Grateful for a lot but also hoping for better luck and health in 2024.

That's just for anyone else who is sick to the gills of the toxic positivity of the Garrihys and other instahuns and the general vacuum of authenticity we're faced with on social media at this time of year.

I know il get eaten! But I do like casual low key engagements. Our walking with Bert to be fair where they’re happy. Nice and simple all the same I’ll give him that

I was in school with the girls and they’re all absolutely gorgeous. Really lovely family who haven’t changed at all over the years. In school they were cool but never bitches and would have a good conversation with anyone. Claire and Eugine are truly kind people. They didn’t come from much but worked their arses off to get to a place of solid financial comfort. They also do huge amounts of charity work and the houses they built in Romania for orphans are spectacular. Eugine organised for groups from the school to volunteer in Romania and took such pride in educating more people about the corruption there so we could come home fighting for change. Most of their charity work is under the radar. Only thing I could ever say about then is I’m devastated Aoibheann got braces to close the gap between her front two teeth, I always think people with that gap look so endearing there are a lot of wolves in sheep’s clothing out there but these girls are from such a lovely, wholesome family.
