His defence has really pissed me off, I know its his job to defend him etc but when he said the woman who was raped didn't kick out or try stop him was just like wtf. Im sure many rape survivors do not kick out, your body goes into fight or flight and you are in complete shock as to what has happened. No one can say how they would react in that situation so its just hurtful.
The misogyny of the defence is deeply depressing. The idea that women who do not shout or fight are the only innocent. That a woman who cheats is not credible. That the documentary was unfair because it made women report him when they previously had not, thereby implying they were being opportunistic rather than giving them the courage that they were not the only voice.
His defence really seems to cover the whole gamut of rape myths.
- a real victim would fight back
- if they didn’t report at the time it is made up or attention/compensation seeking
- a rapist would rape every sexual partner
- he just likes sex and the women now decide they didn’t like it.
- this is about sex, not control or power
I hope the jurors have an understanding of what rape is.
